For many years, various Martial Arts have associated themselves with animals; depicting the grace and self-control of the White Crane; the strength and cunning of the Tiger; the alertness and skill of the Eagle in tracking down its prey; the deadly lightning strike of the King Cobra, and not forgetting the elusive Dragon, steeped in folklore.
This mutual respect we share with animals is most evident when we compare the number of sports clubs that share their name and of course not forgetting their mascots.
A brief study of the following sports gives you an indication as to where this is most evident:
- RUGBY LEAGUE.... Warrington Wolves, Leeds Rhinos, Castleford Tigers.
- CRICKET... Essex Eagles, Derbyshire Falcons, Middlesex Panthers.
- AMERICAN FOOTBALL... Chiltern Cheetahs, Portsmouth Pumas.
There are also a number of animals included in the titles of many English Amateur Football Teams e.g. Tigers, Cobras, Hawks.
